The long wait is over, and the Barstool Sportsbook App is now live and available for download in Pennsylvania. The app can be downloaded on Android and iOS devices, and customers can create an account and start betting today.
Barstool Sports has been teasing the launch date for a few weeks, but the app officially launched on Friday. The company went through a soft launch earlier in the week, and they were able to fix any mistakes or bugs before rolling it out to the general public.
Penn National Gaming is the company behind the launch of the Barstool Sportsbook app, and this comes after Penn National acquired 36% of the company earlier this year. Barstool Sports is a multimedia company that has built up a huge following of fans, and this sportsbook will be geared towards a younger generation of sports bettors.
Pennsylvania will serve as a trial run for the new Barstool Sportsbook app, but the company targeted this state for a specific reason. Pennsylvania has been one of the fastest-growing markets in the US, and that trend will continue with the launch of Barstool.
Several of the biggest stars of Barstool Sports were personally delivering promotional and bonus codes this weekend throughout the state to build up the customer base. Barstool Sports is a popular name in the sports media industry, but not in the sports betting industry.
Joining a Crowded Market
Barstool Sportsbook is now the 10th mobile app available in Pennsylvania, meaning it will enter a crowded and competitive market. Barstool missed out on the first weekend of the 2020 NFL season, but they were able to launch in time for Week 2.
Last month, Pennsylvania reported a total sports betting handle of more than $365 million, with almost 90 percent of those bets being placed online. Big names such as DraftKings, FanDuel, and SugarHouse have already launched in the state.
Unique Features Offered
One way that Barstool is expected to build up customers in a competitive market is by offering new and unique features. The sportsbook will feature “Barstool Personality Picks,” which will give bettors a chance to follow or fade picks from their favorite personalities.
Barstool is also expected to feature a number of great promotions in Pennsylvania, and they will do the same in other states where they are expected to launch.
Other States on Tap?
Now that the Barstool Sportsbook is live and available in Pennsylvania, the company is set to explore other markets. Even though the company has stated that the app will not be available in other states until at least 2021, some of these states have already been revealed.
Two of the other states that are expected to see a Barstool Sportsbook app are Colorado and Illinois. Colorado just launched sports betting on May 1, and Illinois launched on March 9.
Barstool already has a strong presence in Illinois, which is the reason for targeting that state. Colorado is expected to become a huge player in the industry, and both Penn National and Barstool want in on that revenue.
