The 2022 MLB season officially starts this week, and it could be a big year for teams in the state of
California. When it comes to futures betting odds, there is one team that stands out above the pack.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are the betting favorites to win the World Series with odds at +450. The Toronto Blue Jays are next on the list at +850, and so oddsmakers clearly feel that the championship is for the Dodgers to lose.
Three other teams from the state of California have decent odds as well, and they could at least make the playoff field. The San Diego Padres (+1700), San Francisco Giants (+2000), and the Los Angeles Angels (+2500) would all be an underdog to win the title, but those three teams are in the running.
In the National League, the odds for the Dodgers are even more impressive to win the pennant. The Dodgers have odds set at +220 to win the NL, while the Padres and Giants are at +750 and +1300, respectively.
The Dodgers have a win total set at 98.5, and they will likely be challenging 100 wins yet again.
NL West First Step
Winning the NL West is the first goal for the Dodgers, and this was a challenge a season ago. Los Angeles was pushed by the Giants all season long, but oddsmakers don’t expect that to occur again this
year.
The Dodgers are -230 to win the NL West Division, and those are the best odds for any team from any division. The Padres are actually seen as the biggest challenger at +350 while the Giants come in at +600.
San Francisco had similar odds a season ago before they put together one of the best seasons in franchise history.
A Look at the AL
There are two California teams that compete in the AL West Division, but oddsmakers only give one team a chance to be competitive. The Houston Astros are once again the betting favorite to win the AL West, with odds set at -170.
The Los Angeles Angels could be in the mix to win the AL West this season as they currently have odds set at +410. Houston has dominated this division over the past 5-6 years, and it would be an upset to see another team win the title.
California Loaded With Great Players
Not only will there be some great baseball played in the state of California, but some of the best players in the league play ball in this state. A quick look at the MVP odds for each league show just how great
some of these players are.
In the American League, Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels are the betting favorites to win the award. Ohtani has odds set at +340, and Trout is right behind him at +550.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have three players in the top seven when it comes to betting odds to win the NL MVP Award. Mookie Betts (+1100), Freddie Freeman (+1200), and Trea Turner (+2100) will all be in the middle of the order for the Dodgers.
