FanDuel Launches in Iowa

On Friday morning, FanDuel Sportsbook announced that it has officially launched its mobile sportsbook app in Iowa. The app is available for download on Android and iOS devices, and links are provided on the FanDuel Sportsbook online site.

FanDuel is clearly trying to make a big move in the Midwest region of the United States as the company launched its mobile app in Illinois less than two weeks ago. FanDuel is not new to the state of Iowa, but it will be able to reach more customers by offering mobile sports betting.

The company has formed a partnership with Boyd Gaming, and that has given it access to Diamond Jo Casinos in the state of Iowa. The Diamond Jo Casinos are located in both Dubuque and Northwood.

FanDuel started offering retail sports betting at both casinos on August 29, 2019, and it has quickly emerged as one of the leaders in the state. Rumors of an online launch have been circulating for months, but it finally happened on Friday morning.

Sports betting in Iowa was legalized in May 2019 after Governor Kim Reynolds signed a bill into law. The state was able to quickly get the industry up and running ahead of the start of the 2019 NFL season.

In-Person Registration Required

The state of Iowa still requires in-person registration, and that could keep some folks from betting on the FanDuel mobile app for the time being. Customers that wish to download the mobile app will have to visit either one of the Diamond Jo Casinos to complete the registration process.

This will only be the case for a few more months as the in-person registration requirement goes away on January 1, 2021. Other states have removed the in-person registration requirement because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but Governor Reynolds has not made a similar move.

Illinois Market Off to Great Start

FanDuel Sportsbook is off to a great start in Illinois, but there is less competition in the Land of Lincoln. FanDuel is just one of three mobile sports betting apps that are live in Illinois, but PointsBet is set to join the market soon as well.

To attract new customers in Illinois, FanDuel has been offering some huge promotions throughout the first two weeks of its launch. Illinois residents have been able to enjoy remote registration, which has helped generate extra buzz and excitement.

FanDuel an Industry Power

fanduelicon150FanDuel Sportsbook got its start as a Daily Fantasy Sports provider, and they have dominated that market along with DraftKings. When the federal ban on sports betting was lifted in the United States, FanDuel quickly shifted to sports betting.

Outside of Iowa and Illinois, FanDuel also offers mobile sports betting in Colorado, Indiana, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. They also offer retail sports betting in New York, Michigan, and Mississippi.

The sports betting industry in the US is extremely competitive, but FanDuel continues to stand out.
