The New York Mets have gotten off to a great start in the 2022 season as they have won 11 of their first 16 games. New York was expected to be better this season, but no one expected them to jump out to such a big division lead.
After just two weeks of the season, the Mets have already opened up a four-game lead in the National League East Division. This isn’t the first time that the Mets have gotten out of the gates quickly, but this team feels like it is good enough to maintain this string of solid play.
The Atlanta Braves are the defending World Series champions, and they were expected to win the division. That could still happen after the full 162 games are played, but the Mets are clearly going to keep the pressure on them.
With the quick start, the odds for the Mets to win the National League have also changed pretty dramatically since the start of the season. Those odds now sit at +600, and those are the second-best odds to win the pennant.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are still the big favorites to win the NL as they have odds set at +240. Atlanta is right there with the Mets as they have odds set at +600 as well.
A Two Team NL East Race?
The NL East is a division that was expected to have three teams battling for the title, but it’s starting to look like it might be a two-team race. The Philadelphia Phillies have gotten off to a rough start to begin the year, and those odds have dropped since the season began.
Philadelphia is now at +450 to win the NL East, and that’s pretty far behind the Mets and Braves. New York is now the favorite at +115, while the Braves are right behind them at +155.
Brewers, Dodgers Other Favorites
The other two divisions have a pretty clear betting favorite, and things have played out that way up to this point. The Milwaukee Brewers are favorites to win the NL Central, and the Dodgers are overwhelming favorites in the NL West.
Milwaukee has odds set at -160 to win the Central Division, and the St. Louis Cardinals are next on the list at +195. Los Angeles has odds set at -230 to win the NL West, and the Padres are behind them at +450.
Scherzer in Cy Young Mix
The New York Mets are used to having a Cy Young caliber starting pitcher in their staff, and that is the case yet again. This time around, it isn’t Jacob DeGrom that is one of the Cy Young betting favorites, but Max Scherzer has pulled into that position.
Scherzer has betting odds set at +600 to win the Cy Young Award, and this wouldn’t be the first time that has happened. Corbin Burnes has odds set at +700, and Carlos Rodon is third on the list at +1000 in what should be a fun race to follow.
