The college football season has less than a month remaining, with most conference championship games set for either December 18 or 19. The final College Football Playoff rankings will be released on December 20, and fans will know the four teams competing for the title.
Week 13 of the college football season is complete, and it’s time to take a look at the updated betting odds to win the title. The top of the list is loaded with perennial powers in the world of college football.
Alabama is now the clear favorite to win the title this season, with odds set at +125. The Crimson Tide had no trouble with Auburn in the Iron Bowl on Saturday, and they are still undefeated.
Clemson already has a loss on the season, but that game was played without quarterback Trevor Lawrence. The Clemson Tigers are listed at +250 to win the national championship this season.
Ohio State (+550) and Notre Dame (+600) are next on the list, and both the Buckeyes and Fighting Irish are undefeated. Both teams have already had games postponed or canceled due to COVID-19, and that could affect their rankings.
Rounding out the top-six is the Florida Gators (+1200) and the Texas A&M Aggies (+1600). That means that there are three SEC teams in the top six, and only two of these teams can make the SEC Championship Game.
COVID-19 Changing Schedules
COVID-19 continues to affect games all across the country, and Ohio State had their Week 13 matchup against Illinois canceled. The Buckeyes are expected to be back on the field in Week 14, but it’s unclear if any of their top players will be forced to sit out.
Some leagues have built-in an open week at the end of the season, but the Big Ten Conference does not have that luxury. The College Football Playoff Committee will be forced to look at the effects of COVID-19 on each deserving team before releasing the final rankings.
Cincinnati, BYU Trying to Crack Top Four
There are still two teams from outside the Power 5 Conferences that remain undefeated, and these teams are trying to play their way into the College Football Playoff. The Cincinnati Bearcats out of the American and the BYU Cougars as an independent are both undefeated, and they are putting up a solid argument.
Cincinnati now has odds set at +3300 to win the College Football Playoff, while BYU still has odds of +15000. The Bearcats enter Week 14 with a record of 8-0, while the BYU Cougars are 9-0.
Quarterbacks Leading Heisman Race
The race for the Heisman Trophy this season is heating up as well, and quarterbacks are pulling away from the rest of the pack. A pair of quarterbacks from the SEC are currently leading, but there is plenty of time for that to change.
Florida quarterback Kyle Trask is now the leader at -110, but Alabama quarterback Mac Jones is right behind him at +150. Trevor Lawrence (+500) and Justin Fields (+1000) round out the top-four, but both players have lost some opportunities due to COVID-19.
