Pitchers and catchers have started report throughout Major League Baseball, and Spring Training games will begin in less than two weeks. Entire rosters will start to show up to camp soon as well, and there is plenty of optimism throughout the league.
The New York Mets and New York Yankees could both be in for terrific seasons, and both fanbases are dreaming of a World Series title. A quick look at the updated World Series betting odds reveals that it might not be a dream, and a Subway Series could become a reality.
The Yankees are +550 to win the World Series, which are the second-best odds at this time. The Los Angeles Dodgers are listed at +350 as they look to repeat as World Series champions.
The Mets are a little bit further down the list but still have odds of +1000 to win the title. That is currently tied with the Atlanta Braves for the fifth-best odds, and it shows how close the Mets truly are.
Major League Baseball is set to play a full 162-game schedule this season with a traditional playoff format.
Yankees King of AL East?
The American League East has been extremely competitive over the last 10 years, but sportsbooks don’t think that will occur this season. The Yankees are the heavy betting favorites at -195, but things could always change once the games begin.
The Toronto Blue Jays are next on the list at +360, and the reigning AL champion Tampa Bay Rays currently have odds of +400 to win the division. The Boston Red Sox are expected to be improved this season, but they are currently listed at +2000 to win the AL East.
NL East A Tight Race
The National League East could be one of the best divisions in baseball this season, and the Mets are not currently the favorites to win the division. The Braves are the reigning NL East champions, and they are the betting favorites at +125.
The Mets are next on the list at +145, but there are four teams with a legitimate shot to win the division title. The Washington Nationals (+600) and the Philadelphia Phillies (+800) could both make a run in 2021.
MVP Favorites
Another popular futures betting market is on which player will win the Most Valuable Player Award in each league. The odds have already been posted, but these odds will change almost weekly throughout the season.
In the American League, Mike Trout is once again the favorite to win the AL MVP Award with odds set at +200. Aaron Judge (+1200) and Gleyber Torres (+2500) of the Yankees are both inside the top eight and could factor in the race.
The National League has both Mookie Betts and Juan Soto listed at +750, and the MVP Award race in the NL is a bit more wide open. Francisco Lindor of the Mets checks in at +1200 for his first season in the National League.
